Help for Offenders

FASS provides a range of assessment reporting, counselling and alcohol education interventions for individuals referred by Social Work Criminal Justice Services, Courts and HM Prison Services.

Clients can recieve a structured programme of alcohol counselling as a stated condition of a Probation Order imposed by a Court or in instances where a supervising social worker considers this a necessary course of action.

Counselling assists clients to explore and resolve binge drinking or dependency, and related issues that may include personal, social, health, employment and financial concerns. Specifically, it offers an opportunity for individuals to resolve any direct link between their drinking behaviour and offending.

An extended programme of alcohol education is also available for individuals who experience difficulty in engaging in counselling. This includes elements of personal reflection, self-monitoring, examination of abstinence regimes and safer drinking skills.

Referrals are also taken from HM Prison Service and Social Work in instances where assessment, followed by counselling and/or alcohol education are considered a necessary intervention for clients released on parole.

FASS also provides alcohol assessment reports at the request of Sheriff Courts and Social Work Services.

• arrangements for management of alcohol withdrawals, pre and post detox support
• exploration of deeper issues and problem solving
• abstinence, controlled drinking and harm reduction regimes
• relapse prevention

• consultation with other professionals regarding client care
