How to Refer a Social Work Client?

Referral

Problem drinking and offending are often inextricably linked.  If you believe your client may benefit from a counselling programme, you can refer by downloading our Referral Form.

Alternatively your client may be referred to us as an alternative to prosecution or as a condition of probation as part of a deferred sentence of diversion scheme.  We can offer a 6 week alcohol education course which may be incorporated into an agreed counselling program.

 Objectives of Alcohol Education

  •  To improve knowledge of alcohol;

  • To develop self awareness and self monitoring skills;

  • To help explore coping strategies to reduce or abstain from drinking;

  •  To help students’ awareness of personal values;

  • To encourage students to accept responsibility for their behaviour.

 The course is adaptable and can be altered to meet the needs of individuals.

 Reporting Procedures

 Prior to the course an offender would receive an initial assessment and details of suitability would be reported to the Social Work Service.

 On completion of the course, a further report on attendance, participation and commitment to improving his/her drinking and offending behaviour would be forwarded to Social Work Services.
